Juan Davilla, 55, of Griswold, was sentenced Wednesday to spend the next 5 ½ years in prison for driving drunk and killing 28-year old Lakendrick Horn in April 2013. Horn, a husband and father who was stationed at the U.S. Submarine Base in Groton, was standing in a parking lot in Preston waiting for a taxi with a friend, when Davilla struck and killed Horn and seriously injured his friend. Davilla admitted to drinking 3 gin and tonics and several beers before he got behind the wheel of his vehicle. His blood alcohol content was 0.145, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08. Davilla pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle for injuring Horn’s friend, as well as drunk driving. When Davilla gets out of prison, he will lose his driver’s license for a year, be required to install an interlock ignition device on his vehicle, and will be forbidden from using any drugs or alcohol for the three years he will be on probation.
